About

Hi, you can call me JT for short.

I work as a *big* data engineer for the US federal government. You know, data warehouses, ETL, BLTs, long walks on the beach, etc. I'm also a hobbyist/self-taught web developer. As you can you probably guess, I'm into tech (& travel + movies).

Beyond columns and code, I really enjoy reading personal blogs. I think they're the purest form of information dissemination nowadays. In addition to reasons listed in my first post, I decided to spin up my own amateur blog and contribute to the web's wealth of knowledge (you should consider it too!). Some of my writing here might be junk, and some will certainly embarass my future self, but ultimately I trust someone out there will get something out of it.

Thanks for stopping by jiratickets.com!

1.) Working on building a community side projects database. Something between Hacker News and Product Hunt, but ranking strictly passion projects instead of research papers or startup launches. I'm hoping it serves as a great place to find inspiration and get eyes on developers' independent creative work.

2.) Preparing for a camping trip in Banff and a northeastern roadtrip to Montreal, Maine, and Boston this fall. I'm a little worried about the grizzly bears but excited for the lobsters. Please reach out if you have local recommendations.

3.) Reading Anthony Bourdain's book (Bram Stoker's Dracula is up next), playing Valorant, listening to endless Grateful Dead shows, going for lots of dog walks, not getting around to watching as many movies as I would like to be, casually practicing German, and trying to be good about taking lots of photos.
